((Sigh)) Excuse me for being MIA but I’ve been a busy bee at work and I finally completed a very important project for my pinsan’s wedding. She lives in Windsor, Ontario CA and for 2 weeks her and I have been texting back and forth making sure the details of her invitation is exactly what she envisioned. Every progress I made she added more emotions to her words!   After dabbing around with a few vectors on my most favorite graphic design websites, MyGrafico.com, the final outcome of her invite turned out absolutely gorgeous.  I mailed it Saturday morning and sure enough I heard from her on Monday telling me that Arnie, fiancé, received the delivery! I am very excited to share with you a glimpse of what I’ve made for her. Can’t wait til she assembles it and sends it off to her guests – including me!! I can picture her with tears of joy!!

I woke up this morning dreaming about flower headpieces and blushers! Yes flower headpieces- an accessory that has been pretty popular lately!  It’s not only sophisticated and sleek but it is very unique and carefully handmade.   If you think the bride is  the center of attention, think again, bridesmaids are extensions of your style and personality and deserve the same kind of attention.

That is when I found this Filipina artists named Bridgette of Los Angeles. She handmakes every little detail of the headpiece exactly the way you want it. You envision it and she’ll make every effort to make it a reality !!! Visit her shop, Presumptuous Me on Etsy and mark this as one of your faves!

Ba Ba Barongs!

February 17, 2012

I think it’s about time we switch gears and discuss what REAL Filipino Weddings are all about! Our main focus for this blog is to not only inspire the Filipina Bride through visuals but to enlighten them as to why a Filipino Wedding Ceremonies are so unique. It’s obvious for the fact that our culture is different and we grew up predominately Catholic.  It can take weeks and months to learn the history of a Filipino kasal, wedding,  but we will spare you with the details -  although we really think it’s a good idea to read up on it another time.   There are a few blogs and sites that will help educate you on the history of a kasal, wedding, but the most precious and priceless mentors that will be there every step of the way are your parents!

One of the first major decisions the couple will discuss is to whether or not  the groom and groomsmen should wear “barongs”…The barong Tagalog (or simply barong) is an embroidered formal garment of the Philippines commonly used in special events including weddings.  …Although it is an essential part of a traditional filipino wedding, you don’t have to feel that it is imperative to wear one.  It is personal preference for the couple but NOT a requirement. Over the years the barong Tagalog has undergone some fashion sense – what was the typical ivory embroidered garment has now transformed to a diverse line of colors and designs to reflect the modern groom…So if you are torn between wearing a barong or not  maybe a few of these photos will help you in your decision.

Purple Rain….

February 8, 2012

“I only want to see you laughing in the purple rain”…I was humming to Prince’s #1 Hit song because the most recent events that was acknowledged and celebrated this past week.  My sister-in-law’s, Alyssa, 2nd year anniversary had a motif of purple at her wedding and we adorned our friend Aileen’s baby shower with pastel purple. Such a beautiful and very appealing color for any season of the year! Who says that everything must be the same shade? VIOLETTE OUI OUI

My Pinsan (female cousin) is getting HITCHED! I had a lovely conversation with her just a few days ago. We normally would catch up on life, love, and career but this time around we talked about her wedding plans to her long time boyfriend of 12 years! People have mixed feelings of long distance relationships but for this young couple they proved these pessimists wrong – they traveled across country to make this relationship work – from Toledo, OH to London, ON, Canada – They are so madly deeply in love with each other, it was normal routine for Arnie to visit Armin through even the worst of weathers. Being that my Tita and Tito are very conservative and very traditional Arnold was a true gentleman and respected them. At times he’d stay at a hotel but believe it or not he would just spend a full day with Armin and drive 2.5 sometimes 3 hours back home to Ohio. oh how romantic!

Although her theme doesn’t seem so out-of-the-ordinary, it definitely suits her personality – fresh, sweet, pleasant, beautiful, and Asian (no pun intended). You can never go wrong with cherry blossoms. I hope some of the items I chose will help inspire her and you! This kind of theme never gets old – in fact it gets better with time especially with all the creative, DIY projects that are out there! Here are a few that just tickled my fancy!

Love Birds

January 19, 2012

It all started Monday evening, I came home and noticed that the donation truck missed 1 full bag of items that we wanted to give to charity. It’s a work in progress but we’ve been attempting to clean house since the New Year and let me tell you, 10 bags later and slight progression, we still have a long way to go to make our home ‘clutter free’. As I open the bag I see at least 5 birdhouses that we never got to use at our wedding. I regret that we never had a chance to integrate it with our theme all because I thought I was going ‘overboard’.  Last night I took a pic via instagram of one of the birdcages and kept it as part of our home decor.  So I wake up this morning and thought to myself,  “what better way to post my next entry dedicated to all the “Love Birds” out there!”

Wedding Pinays was inspired by the events that took place prior to the day I married my husband, Art! What made my wedding so successful was his patience, support, and encouragement! Although he participated in some of the significant parts of the planning he was such a good sport and did not turn down anything that I envisioned  – well that’s not true – we had some debates and compromised at the end! We would not have done it without the help and blessings of our friends, family, ninangs, ninongs, sponsors, vendors, and not to mention wedding blogs!  Believe it or not many ideas for our centrepiece and props were influenced by all the vivid colors and creativity our vendors and blogs have presented to us.  Perhaps the style I envisioned made a difference because having a vintage wedding made it just as easy.  The classic elegance of having vintage pieces as part of my layout made such an impression to our guests.

This blog is to inspire and help make your dream wedding come true.  With all the thousands of blogs already out there I wanted to create one slightly different – okay VERY DIFFERENT! As you see it’s all in the name! I will be posting cultural and influential entries for you – the Pinay Bride (but not limited to)! We would like to spread the word on the best venues, flowers, photographers, wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, even ethnic  items such as barongs, invitations, arrhae, etc.  While perusing through Wedding Pinays you will have the opportunity to find local Filipino (and non Filipino) vendors in your area!

Without further ado, I hope you enjoy my blog as much as I have created it! If you would like to be featured  and share your special day with us or if you are a vendor please send an email to info@weddingpinays.com.  I would love to hear from you and hope to build not only a business relationship but friendship as well.

**We are also seeking  spotlight admins to help assist maintain the site! It is a great opportunity to utilize your blogging and creative skills *** Email me at info@weddingpinays.com if you are interested.

Salamat!

Winter Wonderland Weddings…

December 29, 2011

Who says Winter weddings are a drab? It’s not the best time to travel, the horrendous temps are hard to fight, and us ladies can’t seem to wear that backless dress and open toe shoes to feel sexy.  We know we know but in all honesty winter weddings are usually the most beautiful time to celebrate, in fact, I love them! If I had to do it all over again I would consider having it in this season of bliss. I dreamed of  having a March wedding – it is the dead of winter and spring is just around the corner.  Knowing that the trees and flowers are ready to bloom we look forward to a new life – like the union of  your marriage.  Think of  ice castles, mistletoes, cinnamon, ice skating,  faux fur, and pretty snowflakes..

Something about fresh snow and the stillness of the world gives us a chance to be selfish and to imagine that we are the only people in the universe being catered to…

Here are just a few beautiful wedding ideas I came across that may inspire you for your Winter Wedding…

MyWeddingReceptionIdeasBlog.com – Ideas for Wedding Favors

“Love Birds in Winter Wedding Theme” at Things Festive Blog

A great idea for a dessert table, seating arrangement decor, or even a gift table, is to create a piece with vintage windows surrounded by all that glitters – winter colors like gold, silver, white, white and more white…I found this photo on a great blog called Ruend. As you see it turns a drabby old table to something classy and elegant.

Lastly, this is a grand idea for your sweetheart table. I do not recall where I found this image but this is pouring with glam and it is very simple to make. Tall vases, blushed colored flowers, hanging jewels, candles, and DIY seat piece.

[Sigh] Just sitting here swifting through winter wedding ideas makes me so gitty and excited all over again. Best of luck on your wedding plans, and please if you have any images to share we would love to hear from you. Send us email at info@weddingpinays.com.

Congrats to Gene and Stephanie on your Engagement! Although we will be missing out on your party tonight we are thinking of you and definitely looking forward to all the future fun-filled events!

While on that subject, check out this DIY engagement invitation ! click on the image for their full story on how to create these invites (post from eat|drink|chic)

I also ran across some articles from different blogs on a few unique ways to plan your engagement photo session…Be creative by having a theme! It is only one time (aside from Halloween) to take advantage of dressing up and playing the characters you thought you’d never be – or ‘wanna-be’. Take a look at this couple – so ‘retro’ and ‘groovy’ (post from weddingchicks)

Another way to have fun with your photoshoot is to show your personality by finding venues that will fit your lifestyle or character! Bring props and/or mementos that mean something to you- that way you are able to share the story on who you are as a couple ! Look how cute this couple is – so whimsy (post from brideandbreakfast.ph)

And lastly this is Art and I…We weren’t exactly prepared nor did we really have a theme or props but we chose a venue that had color, warmth, and some vibe to it – hey that sounds like us!! Thanks to our friends Joselle and Mary-Anne for taking our pics! Such great talent. These shots are very casual but that is exactly what we wanted…
